#8 "Assisi"
Assisi
When we think of a great servant leader we often think of St.Fransis of Assisi. St.Fransis grew up very wealthy, but one day was arrested while on a crusade. He was freed but he began questioning if this life was for him so he began to pray. God told him to rebuild the church. St.Fransis began giving to the poor and performed many miracles. St Fransis's impacts are still felt today by many. His commitment to serving the poor encourages many social efforts and volunteer work.
Servant leadership has meant a lot for me during my life. I have served hundreds of hours doing various activities such as volunteering at a Christian camp to working in food banks. I think that St.Fransis have a very similar style. That style being that he led through service and humility rather than power and authority. I have closely modeled my leadership style to this throughout my life without even realizing it. However, this just gives me more inspiration to be like St.Fransis and be the best servant leader I can be.
The biggest geographical difference of Assisi were the hills. The hills were absolutely BRUTAL to climb especially in the heat. However, the hills made the view breathtaking. At the top of Assisi you could see for miles over rolling hills and farm land. While in Assisi me, Nick, and Jacob ventured around the streets and found a tiny restaurant tucked into a forgotten alleyway. It was there that I had my favorite food this trip. It was carbonara as the first course then an amazing chicken dish. The tastes were something I have never experience before and I don't think I'll ever find anything like it.
What I will remember most about Assisi are the breathtaking views and the beautiful St.Fransis cathedral. The fresco's inside the cathedral were some of my favorites of this trip. I also just loved the vibe of Assisi, it wasn't too busy and too loud. I will also always remember the amazing food I had while there, it will be something I can never replicate. Overall, Assisi was a wonderful city and I had an amazing time. I just wish I could take pictures inside the Cathedral.
