Living the Dolce Vita: The True Meaning of ‘La Dolce Vita’ and How It Applies to Study Abroad
Picture this, you are me and you tell someone that you are studying abroad in Italy. "Yeah, I'm studying abroad in Italy I'm so excited!". The other person says, "Oh my gosh that sounds like so much fun I would love to be in Italy!". I feel like that is an example of how not only are you living the sweet life but others think that too. It is just a different type of lifestyle than American life. You can feel it and so can everyone around you.
For example, this is what my daily life in Arezzo looked like. I would wake up early which is something I would never be doing in America. I go downstairs eat a nice fresh breakfast and have my first cappuccino of the morning. After this, I would go to class with 39 of my closest friends and enjoy the first lecture of the day. During the breaks between lectures, I would go to a cafe with a few of my friends get my second cappuccino of the day and eat a pastry. The second morning lecture would happen after this then it would be lunchtime. During lunch, I would go to Dal Moro and have an amazing fresh sandwich that I would never be getting in America. After lunch, the next lecture would happen then after that we would be free. I would go get dinner and explore Arezzo for the rest of the day.
The days in Italy were so different from than days in America. It felt as if even the sun felt different, the light felt more vibrant. The days are more easygoing, at least in Arezzo. It was such a nice change of pace from the fast-paced American lifestyle. I really felt as if I was living the sweet life. My only wish is that the days didn't fly by as fast as they did.
In the end, studying abroad was living the sweet life. The days were filled with fun and were busy, yet relaxing. The sweet life has a different definition for everyone, but in my opinion, the sweet life is being on a different continent with 39 of your closest friends. My sweet life was sharing stories on the terrace until we would get too tired to keep talking then do it all again the next day. I really hope I can carry over parts of this sweet life to America.
